Postnatal support

Supporting you postnatally

Practical & emotional care and support, providing reassurance for the early days and

supporting the whole family on their journey into parenthood.

What does a postnatal doula do?

Nurturing Care

Supporting your choices

Supporting your choices

As your postnatal doula I will ensure you and your new baby are given all the time and space you need to get to know each other whilst you find your feet as a new family, all in the safety of your own home.    I will be there to ease your concerns, support you through those early challenges, hear your joys and be your shoulder to cry on.   This is your baby, your family and I am not there to tell you how you should care for your baby or make judgements, but to walk alongside you as you journey through those precious first few days and weeks in the way that feels right for you.

Supporting your choices

I can offer support with feeding, however you choose to feed your baby.     Whether breastfeeding or bottle feeding, I will be there to ensure you feel totally supported in the choices you make.  I will provide reassurance, ensure you are comfortable, have everything you need and feel totally cared for so that you can focus on you and your new baby.

By your side

Supporting your choices

By your side

Perhaps over the days or weeks when you feel ready, I can support you as you venture out into the world.

You might like to take a short journey with the pram or try out going for a walk with your baby in a sling.   Perhaps you have an appointment you need to attend with your baby and would like some support or maybe to make that first step to join a local parent and baby group..... all at your own pace and with your doula by your side.

As your doula I will also.....

  • Support your partner and other family members if they are present..... they are also an important part of this new journey  and I will ensure they feel held and supported too.

  • Do light chores- this may be putting the hoover round, general tidying, hanging out or folding washing or similar (not cleaning toilets/bathrooms, mopping floors, emptying bins etc).

  • Encourage you to rest if you want to whilst I visit.   If you feel comfortable I can of course take care of your baby whilst you rest or I can use this time to be getting on with other tasks whilst you both nap.

  • Support you whilst you navigate practical baby care tasks such as bathing and changing.

  • Play with any older siblings whilst you spend time with your baby (only whilst in your home).

  • Be your emotional support.  You may feel a visit is best spent chatting things through, using me as your sounding board, whilst I provide a safe space to talk, cry, laugh and ensure you feel listened to.

  • Offer reassurance and informative support but I can also seek out further resources for you and signpost where necessary.

Getting to know you..

It is so important that you feel a connection with the doula you choose to nurture and support you.  There is a doula out there for everyone!

Before you decide if I'm the doula for you, we can arrange a no obligation face to face meet or online video chat so that you can be sure you feel comfortable and I can answer any further questions you might have.
