Run by an experienced antenatal practitioner and NCT birth doula, Tewkesbury Antenatal is designed to guide you through all things labour & birth, help you to navigate the early days with a new baby and ensure you leave with the knowledge and confidence to make the choices that feel right for you.
At Tewkesbury Antenatal you will explore topics relating to labour & birth but also spend time looking at postnatal care and support and try out caring for a newborn in our practical babycare session!
Your Antenatal Classes run over two Sundays (2 x 5hr sessions)- Topics Include:
During your sessions we will make plenty of time to chat over refreshments. A variety of hot and cold drinks will be provided and lots of lovely, yummy cakes and bakes.
(Please bring a packed lunch).
At the end of the sessions you will take home a gorgeous goody bag filled with beautiful birth related goodies!
ALSO AVAILABLE- One to one private 'preparation for birth' antenatal sessions. If you're unable to make one of my group sessions or maybe you just prefer to have an antenatal session all to yourself then a one to one is the perfect alternative. Join me at our Tewkesbury venue at a date and time to suit you, for 2.5 hours of labour and birth preparation for yourself and a partner (if applicable). Sessions will include everything you need to feel informed and fully prepared for your labour & birth. If there is specific content you want to cover, do let me know and I will tailor the sessions around the topics that are important to you- a kind of build your own Antenatal Class! See booking link for further information about booking a one to one session.
Our sessions are suitable for anyone expecting a baby and their partner/birth partner (although you are very welcome to attend on your own). You are able to come along at any stage of pregnancy but we recommend attending some time between 26 and 38 weeks.
Research shows that being informed about the physiology of labour (knowing exactly what's happening to your amazing body and why) and understanding the choices available to you (what are my options?) means you are more likely to feel you have had a positive birth experience. A fab reason to invest in yourself and prepare for your birth.
The group course is made up of 2 x 5 hour sessions, run over two weekends. Courses run regularly so you are sure to find dates that fit with you.
There will be no boring classes at Tewkesbury Antenatal. Sitting and listening to a teacher talk for the entire course is never inspiring and most definitely boring!
I know how valuable your time is, so I want you to get the most out of your sessions.
I guarantee the sessions will have you.... interacting with the other parents in the group; encourage you to draw on the knowledge you will be surprised you already have; give you the opportunity to explore different viewpoints (all opinions are valid and worthwhile) whilst benefiting from tailor made visual resources designed to inspire and make your learning fun.
Attending a group can be a daunting experience, that's why sessions are held in a relaxed homely environment in the Walton Cardiff area of Tewkesbury. There are no hard seats or cold halls to sit in, only comfy chairs and a cosy space. Everything is aimed at ensuring you feel comfortable and well and truly taken care of over the 10 hour course.
(For further venue details please see booking page)
Groups are made up of 4 or 5 local couples/pregnant mums (maximum) all expecting babies around a similar time to you. Not only are antenatal sessions a fantastic source of information but they are also the perfect way to make connections with other local parents, a ready made circle of support as you welcome your new little one into your lives! (One to one private sessions are also available to book)
Tewkesbury Antenatal is created and run by a local Tewkesbury practitioner for local parents.
The sessions are run by myself- Deborah Hannam, a qualified and experienced doula and antenatal practitioner. Having gained my Birth & Beyond degree with the NCT, I have been supporting parents through pregnancy and running antenatal sessions for Gloucestershire families for the last 6 years. In my role as a doula I am privileged to be able to continue that support, being by a parent's side during birth, ensuring they feel safe, supported and cared for throughout their labour and as they welcome their baby into the world.
